ICAO Global Youth Forum

Presenation prepared for an ICAO Global Youth Forum, by Nuffield Student Robyn Bodimeade-Firth who worked on an ENABLEH2 project at Cranfield University.
This is an example of one of initiatives at Cranfield University to promote STEM and attract young and diverse talent to deliver H2 and related enabling technologies that will be key to decarbonise aviation.

ENABLEH2 at ISABE 2022 Conference

The ENABLEH2 team is hosting a workshop entitled “Hydrogen and Decarbonisation Scenarios” during the ISABE 2022 Conference in Canada on the 24th of September.

Workshop LH2 Fuel Tanks and System Design Options

On 8th March 2021 the ENABLEH2 consortium held an important virtual Workshop focussing on “LH2 Fuel Tanks and System Design Options”. Numerous presentations were delivered, and fruitful discussions were held with more than 60 attendees from 23 organisations representing the ENABLEH2 Consortium and Advisory Board. The Workshop brought together partners and key stakeholders from Universities and Industry to discuss challenges and solutions for fuel systems for LH2-fuelled aircraft. This 3rd successful Workshop and the increasing number of participants demonstrates that there is a strong interest in the themes the ENABLEH2 project is covering and that ENABLEH2 is a very important project towards decarbonising civil aviation. The ENABLEH2 Coordination team wishes to thank all participants for their contributions to the workshop. Similar Workshops are planned to be organised in the near future!

ENABLEH2 Consortium: Cranfield University (Coordinator), Chalmers University, London South Bank University, Safran, GKN, European Hydrogen Association, Heathrow Airport and Arttic Innovation.

ENABLEH2 Advisory Board: Airbus, Rolls-Royce, MTU, IAG, Safran, Lufthansa Technik, GKN, IATA, ICAO, Reaction Engines, Dassault Aviation, Infosys, Air Liquide, Total, Gexcon, Siemens, Abengoa, MHPS, ACI, HyEnergy, Clean Sky 2 JU and FlyZero – ATI.

ENABLEH2 at the Online ICAO Stocktaking Seminar

ENABLEH2, Online ICAO Stocktaking Seminar, 28 April 2020

Dr Bobby Sethi from Cranfield University and coordinator of the EU funded project ENABLEH2 introduced the project at the Online ICAO Stocktaking Seminar on aviation in-sector CO₂ emissions reductions that was held on 28 April 2020. ENABLEH2 featured in the presentation entitled “Reductions from technologies, fuels and operations” by Neil Dickson – Chief, Environmental Standards, ICAO Secretariat.
This online event set the scene for the September event and shared knowledge associated with the main challenges aviation has to face to make progress towards decarbonisation. The face-to-face ICAO Stocktaking Seminar on in-sector CO₂ emissions reductions has been rescheduled to 8-10 September 2020 at ICAO Headquarters in Montreal.

Heathrow Airport Limited - 2nd GA Meeting, 6-7 March 2019

2nd GA Meeting, 6-7 March 2019

Heathrow Airport Limited

The 2nd General Assembly Meeting of the ENABLEH2 Project was hosted by Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) on the 6th and 7th March 2019. Colleagues from HAL introduced the participants to Heathrow’s Carbon neutral growth roadmap and to Heathrow’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainability. This was followed by the work-package presentations during which partners gave an overview of their work progress over the last 6 months. The Meeting was concluded with break-out sessions which enabled detailed technical and project management discussions which further strengthened synergies and collaboration, both in individual work packages and across the project as a whole. These sessions also provided a roadmap for the upcoming activities in the project.

Cranfield University - Kick-off Meeting, 27 – 28 September 2019

Kick-off Meeting, 27 – 28 September 2018

Cranfield University

The ENABLEH2 kick-off meeting was held at Cranfield University on the 27th and 28th September 2018. Project Coordinator Dr Vishal Sethi opened the meeting by welcoming all the participants, presenting the overall aims of the meeting as well as the overall objectives of the project. During the meeting, the Consortium discussed details of the research and innovation activities, the synergies between different work packages and the activities to be implemented. Dr Marina Kousoulidou, Project Manager of ENABLEH2 at the European Commission, presented the targets and requirements of the European Commission for EU-funded Research and Innovation projects like ENABLEH2. The Meeting concluded with interesting visits of the Cranfield University Aerospace Integration Research Centre (AIRC) and the Combustion experimental facilities being used for ENABLEH2.
